The municipality of Lindern is situated in the southwestern part of the district of Cloppenburg, adjacent to the district  Emsland. In terms of the natural landscape pattern of the area, the town belongs to the sandy plains (Geest) around Soegel (Huemmling) and to the subunit of the Soegel-Lindern-Geest.
